We have been at our new location at 8 N Judson for just over a month and the feedback has been fantastic! Cat adoptions have more than doubled, volunteer hours have more than tripled, and we have so many awesome people who just stop by to see what is new! If you have not stopped by yet, consider coming for our ribbon cutting ceremony on May 16th. We will host the Chamber Coffee at 8:00 am followed by the ribbon cutting.
Our resale space has some great deals on decor items, collectible glassware, and even some DYI items. The retail section is currently stocked with pet food, collars, leashes, flea and tick prevention, pet beds, and toys. We have already hosted several events at the new location including visits from the local girl and boy scout troops. Scouts were able to tour the new location, play with cats, and make a take-home craft item. The weather has delayed a few projects, but in May, we will complete our outdoor fenced space so our foster dogs can come in for meet and greets on Saturdays. Our first dog adoption day is set for May 25th, so if you're looking for a new Fido, stop by! As always, all of our adoptable dogs and cats can be viewed online at fspawsandclaws.org/adoptions.

We have found a new home! After considering many options, the board agreed on a new location in-town! The new space will:
House 12-16 cats Have a small retail space where you can find some great deals on pet supplies Be home to our dog foster home program Host weekly Saturday Adoption Events Be accessible for volunteers and donors WHAT WE STILL NEED: Foster families for dogs Donations to build out a second cat suite (approximate cost will be $400) Help moving our wall cage, washer, dryer, and refrigerator New photos added of a retail shelf and a cat suite panoramic picture.
Paws and Claws is looking for a new home! After months of deliberating and discussing, the Executive Board has voted to relocate closer in town and to transition to a foster program for dogs. We know this is a big change from our current location and it will impact the way we help furry friends and we are excited!
We are currently looking to rent or purchase a small location inside the city limits which would allow us to have an office space, an intake room, storage, and several cat suites. We would love to have an area for the many donated items we receive. We also need space to hold adoption events so that the dogs in foster care can come hang out for a morning once a week and do meet and greets with potential forever homes. We will still shelter cats at the new location, but dogs will either wait for rehoming in their current homes or they will be placed in a foster home. Our hope is to have a smaller location which is easy for volunteers and adopters to access. If you our interested in fostering, please visit our "Foster" tab for more information and an application.
Lee's Paws and Claws has partnered with AdoptaPet.com to provide our adoption listings. This will make it easier for adopters from all over the U.S. to locate and view our animals. It also has a search feature to help potential homes find the animal they are looking for. If you would like to know what dogs and cats are currently available at the shelter, please search here!
A fundraiser yard sale was conducted June 29-July 1 in the 800 block of National Ave. We had hundreds of shoppers turn out to support this great fundraiser. All items for the sale were donated to the shelter. Volunteers set up tables, sorted, priced, and ran the sale which raise nearly $2000 for Lee's Paws and Claws. Money raised will go towards shelter expenses and animal care. Lee's Paws and Claws is always in need of donated time, skills, supplies, and money.
In June of 2016, Lee's Paws and Claws and the Shirley Yeager Animal Friends Foundation received a grant through the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. The grant provided funding to spay, neuter, and vaccinate shelter animals so they could be adopted at a reduced cost to area families and residents. The grant covered surgical costs for 59 cats and dogs. Most of these animals have since been adopted into families. Typical costs to the shelter to prepare an animal for adoption is $120-$200. Because of this grant, animals have been available for a reduced cost of $20-$80. Providing healthy companion animals to local residents promotes happy homes and community wellness.
With the grant funding ending, we hope to find additional sources of funding to continue offering reduced adoption fees to area residents. IF you are interested in sponsoring an animals reduced adoption fees, email us! The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas hosts individual charitable funds, created by donors who have a passion for giving back to their community. Grants from the funds assist people throughout Southeast Kansas and many charities beyond Kansas. Call the Foundation, 620-231-8897 with questions about the Community Foundation and its many services available for donors.
The Lee's Paws and Claws Adoption Event held at the Western Senior Living Building was an amazing success!! Hundreds of visitors stopped by The Western to visit the shelter animals. Five puppies were pre-adopted, five shelter dogs found new homes, and four cats went to their furever families. A huge thank you to the visitors, staff, and volunteers who made this event possible.
